HOUSING

Contact Sandra Keirnan, Housing Navigation Specialist sandy@dnlakeshore.org

Disability Network works to connect people with disabilities to the affordable, accessible housing of their choice.

Our services:

  • Navigating people toward choices that match personal and financial needs
  • Collaborating with other agencies to improve housing options
  • Advocating legislation and local support to improve housing options in our community
  • Continuing the Finding Our Way Home project funded by a grant from the Developmental Disabilities Council of Michigan to assist individuals with disabilities in obtaining the housing of their choice

Looking for accessible housing?

A member of our Advisory Committee has added an accessible housing navigation tool to local MLS real estate listings. Becky Hosley, Sales Associate for Greenridge Realty

Finding Our Way Home

In late 2005, Disability Network/Lakeshore received a four-year grant from the Developmental Disabilities Council of Michigan to assist individuals with disabilities in obtaining the housing of their choice.

What will this project do?

  • Create a center of expertise on housing for persons with disabilities and their families
  • Educate the community at large on the housing needs of persons with disabilities
  • Enhance coordination and awareness of housing resources, including long-term supports/services for persons with disabilities
  • Ensure that the housing needs of persons with disabilities are incorporated into the community’s housing planning and development

What specific services will be provided to community?

  • Provide a map of existing housing resources that are accessible and affordable
  • Link people with resources and offer personalized service guidance
  • Provide both peer and staff support
  • Support efforts of existing providers to serve persons with developmental and other disabilities
  • Advocate at the local and state levels to increase services, financial and housing supports for persons with disabilities
  • Address issues at the local and state levels that create barriers which limit housing options for persons with disabilities
