A partnership involving students with disabilities, families, school and post-school service personnel, local community representatives, and employers. All students leave school to transition into their adult lives. “Transition” describes that critical transformation and includes the education, legal information, planning, and community connections of our special education students need to achieve adult goals.
Who Should Attend?
Parents/Guardians/Family members who have a young adult with a disability, teachers, school staff, and others who are interested in helping students transition to life after school.
This session will consist of an introduction to the five core services that Disability Network Lakeshore focuses on, and how that correlates to the mission which is to connect people with disabilities to resources and opportunities while building communities where everyone can participate, contribute, and belong. During the second portion of the program, participants will be provided information on federal and state benefits for young adults with disabilities and how benefits are impacted by employment. In addition, ABLE Accounts, Special Needs Trusts, and Social Security, and Age 18 Redeterminations will be discussed.
