Fire Safety & Disabilities Guide
Approximately 17,500 people are injured and 3,400 die because of fire per year, according to FEMA. Fire is dangerous for everyone, but those with a disability face unique challenges. As FEMA notes, people with disabilities may have more difficulty escaping during a fire. Not to mention, the need for a caregiver in order to prepare for such a disaster.
Thankfully we have found a resource that was created specifically for people with disabilities in case of fire at home or work. The Guide has recommendations on how to prevent, prepare, and recover from a fire. Local Firefighters are also a good resource for fire safety.
